Two detained for smuggling subsidized wheat flour – Journal

SWABI: Topi police here on Sunday arrested two people from the Mohmand tribal district as they smuggled subsidized wheat flour in two vehicles.

Police stopped vehicles on Kalabat Road for verification and seized a total of 342 sacks of flour.

Topi DSP Pasham Gul Khan said the seized flour was handed over to the Chairman of Anjuman-i-Dukandaran for sale to the people at the official rate.

Meanwhile, a man was killed over a feud in the village of Bamkhel on Sunday.

SHO Swabi town Altaf Khan said a brother of the victim, Mohammad Zohaib, told police that Muzamil Khan and Irshad Khan had targeted him on the Swabi-Mardan road.

He said the body had been transferred to the district headquarters hospital for an autopsy. Police have registered an FIR against the suspects.

A FUNCTION: Speakers at a reception on Sunday urged the government to come up with a mechanism to guarantee women’s share of inheritance.

They were speaking on the Swabi Electronic and Print Media Association’s program ‘Women’s Inheritance Rights in Our Society’. They said women were often forced to go to court to obtain inheritance rights, but their cases remained undecided for long periods.

Former MPA Dr Yasmin Jasim has called for a speedy waiver of women’s inheritance cases and action against all those who deprived them of their share in family properties.

Lawyer Mohammed Jamil highlighted the need for effective implementation of women’s inheritance laws.

Rohil Amin, chairman of the NGO Sagee Behbood Rabita Council, said women were often deprived of their share of inheritance.
