Punjab DGP calls on authorities to crack down on smugglers and smuggling in border districts

Punjab Police Director General (DGP) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota on Saturday ordered all SSPs in border districts to maintain strict surveillance and regularly monitor the activities of all identified smugglers.

The DGP also instructed the respective Police Commissioners / SSP to prepare the files of the gangsters / traffickers and their associates and to ensure a crackdown against them under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The SSPs in the districts close to the border have also been ordered to divide their areas of jurisdiction into sectors and to appoint an official officer for each sector, who is personally present for night domination exercises.

DGP Sahota, while chairing a crime review meeting with Jalandhar and border chain officials at the PAP complex here, also called on all police / SSP commissioners to adopt a policy of tolerance. zero against drugs, illegal mining and other corrupt practices. Upon learning of another tiffin bomb that was recovered recently, DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota ordered his men to closely monitor the drones used to smuggle weapons, ammunition, explosives and drugs.

He also ordered district chiefs to install video surveillance in all police stations and places of worship.

Sahota instructed his men to also identify infamous drug smuggling hot spots in their affected areas and initiate appropriate operations to catch anyone who sells and smuggles. He also ordered district chiefs to arrest all convicted offenders (POs) and bail officers in NDPS cases under their jurisdiction as soon as possible. The DGP also ordered police / SSP commissioners in major cities – including Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar – to further improve their traffic management system to ensure smooth and hassle-free travel for commuters.
