MANILA – The House Ways and Means committee will continue to examine agricultural contraband in the country, a panel member said on Monday.
Committee member and PBA party list representative Jericho Jonas Nograles, at the briefing of relevant government agencies to the committee on Monday, said he had received “very alarming” information but did not have given details.
âI just want to take stock, the secretariat has already written to various agencies to give updates. the committee is very alarming, âhe said.
Nograles said it was worth digging into the details because “there was a report on technical smuggling and undervaluation in April 2021 and … basically there are 8 major raids that probably only show the tip of the iceberg “.
âIn addition to agricultural smuggling, this represents 10% of the total smuggling, it’s really a lot,â he said.
The committee is scheduled to meet again on Monday to discuss this and other issues, including POGO and inheritance taxes.
Another panel investigation into oil smuggling is set for Tuesday.
