As a political observer for over 40 years, I attest: the Republican Party and the “conservative” movement today are saturated with lies, conspiracy theories, bigotry and hatred. “Limited government?” Beyond laughable.
Lies and whacko conspiracy theories? Almost all the way to the right: Pizzagate. QAnon. “Clinton murdered Vince Foster.” 2020 ‘stolen’ elections (The Colossal Lie; a February Quinnipiac University poll found that 76% of Republicans believed there was widespread voter fraud in 2020; not to mention that judges and officials electorates categorically contradict him).
Bigotry? Check: The hateful Christian right-wing rules the Republican Party with an iron fist. Do you oppose the CR positions? Goodbye, appointment. RCs hate LGBT people, demanding the reinstatement of same-sex marriage bans, gay adoption bans and anti-sodomy laws, and stripping LGBT people of hate crimes and protections against discrimination.
The CRists also hate “abortionists”, secularists, feminists and Church-State separatists. Randall Terry (founder of the radical anti-abortion group Operation Rescue) spoke candidly (1993), endorsing “let (ting) a wave of intolerance wash over you. . . let a wave of hatred come over you. Yes, hate is good. . . Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don’t want equal time. We do not want pluralism. “
Shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell said: “(T) he pagans and abortionists and feminists and gays and lesbians who actively try to stop them. do an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way – anyone who’s tried to secularize America … I point my finger at them and say ‘you helped make this happen.’ “
Welcome to the venomous hatred of the CR, unmasked. The Democratic Party and the progressive movement have no equivalent. Whatever it is.
